.. ... .... SERIES I (the earliest series) .. The Series I are undoubtely the most fascinating series for the eight prutot type. The letters Omega are open, the tripod is flanked by a pair of appendages, there are fillets and sometimes "seeds" on each side of the tripod's bowl, and the date is cut lower than usual. This group represents only 16% of all the H486 type. The series I coin pictures are oversized to make the details more visible. Note that an in-deapth article dedicated to the eight prutot series I is published in the present issue of Israel Numismatic Research, the new publication of the Israel Numismatic Society. This 13 pages and 5 plates article includes all the connection tables for the type and lists all the specimens known. Click on the INR logo at left. .... .. . .Die R1 Connected to O1

The three following pictures are showing an astonishing example of a coin also struck by the pair O9-R72, but heavily tooled. On the first tooling (2nd picture) the letters added (arrow) are too fancy and too different than the norm. After my protestation, the dealer retried it from Ebay before the end of the sale. But eight month later, the coin it back on sale after he removed the most fancy letters previously added (3rd picture)! Note that this specimen is also tooled on the reverse, the right palm branch in particular.

Die R43 Note that in "A Treasury of Jewish Coins" (Amphora 2001), under No. 44c, Professor Meshorer attributed by error a specimen struck by this die as bearing a variety on date where the letter " G " would have been missing (See the specimen entitled "Meshorer, TJC #44c"). In fact, the date is normal on this die, but the " G " is very faint on the 44c Plate specimen. Connected to O12
